1,220,580 people
have died in Iraq since our illegal war and occupation
Opinion Research Business, a respected polling organisation used by the BBC and quoted by the White House, estimate that in August 2007, 1.2 million Iraqis (1 in 23) have been killed “as a result of the conflict”. See the
ORB release and analysis from MediaLens and Huffington. Note how the mainstream media has 'buried' this story, such as bbc.co.uk.
The Lancet figures for July 2006 were 655,00 excess deaths,
which extrapolate, using the trend from Iraq Body Count, to over 1 million (see image right).
ORB also released a September 2007 poll of British opinion:
52% say "victory is not possible" in Iraq
60% say British troops are "not winning" in Afghanistan
64% say withdraw British troops from Iraq "within the next year"
57% say withdraw British troops from Afghanistan "within the next year"
From the horses mouth:
“I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil.” Alan Greenspan, memoirs: The Age of Turbulence
“I thought the issue of weapons of mass destruction as the excuse was utterly beside the point.” Alan Greenspan, Guardian
